A non-governmental organisation, Equality Development and Research Center (EDR Centre), organized a workshop at the Ministry of Labour and Employment. They said workplace bullying is becoming an accepted culture in Nigeria , despite being a deadly and silent killer.

The group’s Founder, Marsha Nwanne made this known in Abuja while sensitizing officials of the Ministry of Labour on the effects of workplace bullying.

She said that trauma should never be encouraged nor celebrated. According to her, it is this mentality that has left many depressed, suicidal and afflicted with diseases like high blood pressure and cancer.

She said: ‘We need to work with all relevant stakeholders to fight this terrible vice. Many people spend more time at work than at home. Rapid exposure to workplace toxicity will harm people’s mental health. There is need for awareness and adequate legislations to checkmate this issue.”

The speakers included Dr. Garba Itopa – a psychiatrist , Mrs Titilayo Ayemoba from the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Barr Emmanuel Onuche and Jonathan Wilson – an anti- workplace bullying activist from the United Kingdom.
